THIS IS NOT A THOUGHT, 2011

Frankfurt/Zwickau

From the press release:

Vanja Vukovic’s work »THIS IS NOT A THOUGHT« of 2011 is striking and subtle, ironic and serious at the same time, it is as much an artistic depiction of reality as it is an obvious construction by graphic means.

It poses questions about the social and individual parameters that determine our conception of home and identity in the age of global migration.
But also about what is said and simultaneously thought (and not thought).

Here, the observer is consciously assigned the part of the stranger, the other, who faces established structures – including an apparent openness.

Vukovic strikingly stages classic questions with a quite subtle sense of humour:

What does it mean to feel »at home«?
What and where is »home«?

Are these traditional, almost romanticising terms still up to date at all in times of global migration of goods and people?

Consistently, the work is not only displayed in the gallery, but also as a “political statement” on posters in public spaces.
