KOLLATERALPOESIE, featuring a selection of recent works of
Goekhan Erdogan and Jin-Kyoung Huh, is conceived as a deliberate
juxtaposition of them.
Goekhan Erdogan's works are, in the words of Deleuze and Guattari,
abstract machines of faciality declined according to the deformable
combinations of its machinery. By way of illustration, the holey
surfaces of his Paperblock series appear as clandestine portraits
escaped from the face and its facializations: the close-up treats
the face primarily as a landscape. The picture of the artist’s face
is multiplied by using a photocopier, defining zones of frequency or
probability, in order to get a paper block of simultaneous plateaux
with a number of possible combinations.
The sizeable abstract compositions of Jin-Kyoung Huh, as a sort
of mental landscapes, are also a system of strata for which the
referent, deterritorialized and decoded, is only a part. Throughout
a setting of similarities and expedients, the artist evokes the item of
her obsessive and methodical watching providing its unexpected
completion of signs and lines.
In their work both the artists postulate a correlation between face
and landscape through systems of resonance and redundancy. The
redundancy specific to the face and landscape: All faces envelop an
unknown, unexplored landscape; all landscapes are populated by
a loved or dreamed-of face, develop a face to come or already
past.
